The Minns Labor Government has committed to the upgrade and conversion of the T3 Bankstown Line to metro standards, announcing that the extension of Sydney Metro services from Sydenham to Bankstown will be completed in the second half of 2026.
This conversion will address one of Sydney's biggest rail bottlenecks, providing more reliable journeys to customers all across Sydney.
Customers at Bankstown Station will have a new air-conditioned metro train every four minutes in the peak - that's 15 trains an hour. Before the T3 line closure, Bankstown Station was serviced by eight trains an hour in the morning peak.
The station will be upgraded with level across between platforms and trains, easy interchange with Sydney Trains and platform screen doors to keep people and object away from the tracks. The existing lifts and entrances will be retained.
