Bankstown Hospital

NSW's $2 Billion Investment

Previous Next

A Record-Breaking Investment in Public Healthcare

New and expanded healthcare services for our fast-growing and diverse Bankstown community are one step closer, with demolition now underway to deliver a new health facility for Sydney's south-west communities. Located in the heart of Bankstown's CBD, the new $2 billion Bankstown Hospital is the largest single capital works investment in a public hospital in the state's history.

The new 14-storey hospital and 10-storey car park will deliver more beds and treatment spaces, enhanced health services, a dedicated emergency drop-off area and emergency parking to improve the arrival experience for patients and carers, with the final service offering to be confirmed as planning progresses and expected to include:

  • expand emergency department
  • operating theatres
  • intensive care unit
  • surgical and medical services
  • women and children's health services including maternity
  • mental health inpatient services
  • ambulatory care
  • cancer services
  • aged care health services
  • multi-storey car park and on-ground parking.

The new hospital will be built in the Bankstown city center, located on Chapel Road Bankstown, close to bus and train services, and the new Metro. This will help deliver new contemporary working environments and create new employment, education and training opportunities.

This project will:

  • Transform the delivery of healthcare in Bankstown and its surrounding suburbs.
  • Give local residents access to more health services closer to home.
  • Provide opportunities for research and education.
  • Provide diverse, local job opportunities.
  • Deliver contemporary working environments and new career opportunities through an increased capacity for research, education and training.

MAP OVERVIEW

PROJECT TIMELINE

Our new Bankstown Hospital is becoming a reality as we reach another key construction milestone paving the way for this new state-of-the-art health facility.

The layout plan of each department has been developed, and more detailed designing is in progress.

Work is now underway to dismantle and demolish existing buildings on the site.

The interior strip-out of the old buildings is progressing, in preparation for the removal of the main structures.

Demolition and site remediation activities will continue throughout 2026.

Subject to planning approval, construction of the main hospital is expected to start in 2027 when the design is completed and a builder is appointed.

Stay informed about construction works in your area and how it may affect you, so you can plan ahead and stay prepared. Visit the hospital construction page for more information, the latest updates and the interactive map.
